🇵🇭 Social media users fall for hoax Philippine govt warning over 'fish contaminated with HIV'
"This is alarming. To think we had eaten fish earlier," one commented.A representative from DOH's office in the Caraga region said the department has not issued the warning.DOH assistant regional director Dr. Sadaila Raki-in also told AFP on February 27 the health department"has no office in Bayugan" as claimed in the posts.
She said transmission of HIV from a contaminated test tube to fish and then to humans is"not possible". "HIV cannot survive long outside the human body. It cannot reproduce outside of a human host," she said."There are no studies that show this kind of transmission for HIV is possible. This is not true."says"there is little to no risk of getting HIV" from food contamination.
"The only known cases are among infants. Contamination occurs when blood from a caregiver's mouth mixes with pre-chewed food and an infant eats it."
