The MP cited a 'toxic and bullying' experience as a reason for her defection to the Tories
The MP cited a ‘toxic and bullying’ experience as a reason for her defection to the ToriesSNP MP Lisa Cameron has quit the party and joined the Conservatives a matter of days before the party’s annual conference gets underway, citing a “toxic and bullying” experience.
Ms Cameron, who represents East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow, said last month she felt “ostracised” by her party after she challenged how the leadership handled sexual harassment allegations against colleague Patrick Grady. She also claimed her constituency’s Westminster campaign committee was backing a party worker to contest her seat at the next general election.
In a statement release on Thursday, she said: “I do not feel able to continue in what I have experienced as a toxic and bullying SNP Westminster group, which resulted in my requiring counselling for a period of 12 months in Parliament and caused significant deterioration in my health and wellbeing as assessed by my GP including the need for antidepressants.”, comes on the day she was facing a selection battle to be the candidate in the west of Scotland seat.
