EXCLUSIVE: In an interview with the Record, Hepburn spoke of what he believed was possible if Labour beat the Tories at the general election
Humza Yousaf’s independence minister has said the SNP needs to consider a multi-option referendum on the country’s future.
Starmer has ruled out indyref2, but SNP insiders believe a minority Labour Government would give the Nationalists leverage. “Whether or not that's really come to fruition as much as we might have felt it could otherwise have is another question. But if that was a possibility, that's something we'd need to consider.”
“It could be better than the position we are in just now because it would provide us with a wider variety of fiscal levers to deal with some of the challenges we face in the country. “A referendum would certainly, I think by anyone's estimation, be the most straightforward manner in which we could determine this.”
“Right now, the working assumption will be the SNP will be contesting every constituency at the next general election.” He added: “If you mean in terms of day-to-day administrative functions, then yes, there are areas [where] that could possibly be the case.”
