RESEARCHERS have uncovered a new type of cell hidden inside the human lung, that may hold the key to reversing the damage caused by smoking.

They also found evidence that cigarette smoking and the common smoking-related ailment called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can disrupt the regenerative functions of RAS cells.The scientists discovered these cells after frustrations grew over the limitations of using mice lungs as models of the human respiratory system.
