Or an Astros hat. Or an Astros flag. Or a dog proudly wearing an Astros scarf.
On Tuesday morning, I flew down the freeway to have my car examined at a dealership. There were Astros license-plate holders, Astros stickers, and waving Astros flags decorating the road. When I flipped through the radio dial, a station normally forced to talk about the Texans was avidly discussing how incredible the Astros are.
The New York Times and most of the East Coast media also had no alternative but to praise the Astros after the New York Yankees were swept and the Philadelphia Phillies were vanquished in the playoffs. “But then when I got to be a player and a manager, I was yearning to be just like the Celtics and the Yankees. They were beating the teams. You know, it never gets old. I look at Phil Jackson, and I listen to him talk about how every year's a different challenge. So I've always welcomed that challenge.”
The club that won 101 games in 2017, 103 in '18, 107 in '19, 95 in '21 and has been to six consecutive AL Championship Series. The primary questions in November 2022: How long will the greatest era in Astros history continue, and what will finally stop the Astros’ local reign?
