‘Small trees, large branches down’ extent of damage from earlier round of metro-area storms, chance for more storms this evening ‘well south’ of Chicago, Weather Service says
Part of a tree lies in the middle of St. Paul Avenue, west of Cicero Avenue in Chicago, after a thunderstorm hit the area on Aug. 29, 2022.
It’s unclear how potent the redeveloping storms along and south of Interstate 80 for the evening will be, said Matt Friedlin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service Chicago, but they look to be starting after 6 p.m. The storms will be at least 100 miles south of the metro area, said meteorologist Gino Izzo.“The potential is there for more thunderstorms,” he said. “Some storms could be gusty if they do redevelop, getting back up to 60 mph.
