Many nursing homes are being shuttered nationwide, especially in rural areas. The problem could deepen as pandemic-era government assistance dries up and care facilities struggle to compete with rising wages offered by other employers.

But she’s still seeking more workers.“I know we’re all struggling,” Nelson said.
For many families, the preferred alternative would be in-home care, but there’s also a shortage of workers to provide those services, he said.
