A Sleepy Hollow woman allegedly took police on a high-speed chase after being stopped for driving 107 mph on a 60-mph stretch of Interstate 88 in Naperville, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
Tianna Bryson, 23, of the 800 block of Hemlock Drive, was pulled over about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday for driving more than 35 mph over the limit on westbound I-88 but took off as the state trooper was walking over to her vehicle, reports said. The officer followed her as she weaved in and out of traffic in her 2016 Volkswagen Jetta, sometimes reaching speeds as high as 120 mph and driving on the shoulder of the road, a news release said.
Bryson appeared in bond court Wednesday, where bail was set at $25,000. In addition to one count of felony aggravated fleeing and eluding, she also was charged with multiple misdemeanor and traffic offenses, including two counts of misdemeanor speeding 35-plus mph over the limit. “The surge in recent months of motorists fleeing from police is of great concern as this type of behavior is extremely dangerous and poses a threat not only to the driver, but also puts the police officers involved and motoring public at great risk,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release.
“Thankfully, no innocent motorists or bystanders were injured or worse as a result of Ms. Bryson’s alleged actions. The message is simple, if you hear sirens and see flashing lights behind you, pull over. Leading police on a high-speed chase is not the answer and will only make matters worse.”
