Varga and Team Nova Scotia canoe kayak athlete Ava Carew were selected as winners of the Michener Award, presented after each Canada Games to an outstanding male and female athlete who exemplify leadership, cooperation and excellence on and off the field of play during the Games.“Only one male athlete is picked from the entire Canada Summer Games and I’m not sure how many athletes there are but I can assume probably close to 1,000,” said Varga, who served as captain of Team Saskatchewan.
The Canada Games is an amazing event that he hope many athletes are able to experience, but being the recipient of this award “blows me away,” he added.
