Three of the people who died were elderly residents of a nursing home near Seattle who had contracted the disease

Photo: David Ryder/Getty Images Washington State health officials announced four more deaths from the coronavirus on Monday; three of the victims were residents of a Seattle-area nursing home struck by an outbreak of the disease. A total of six people in the U.S. have now lost their lives to the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, all of them in Washington State.

Washington State: Six people have already died in the largest known U.S. outbreak Four more people infected with the coronavirus have died in Washington, state officials announced Monday. Three people who died were elderly residents of a nursing home near Seattle who had contracted the disease. A fourth person with the virus was reported dead in another nearby county. Four people from the nursing home have now died, and six total in the state — all in a matter of days.

The second person to die was a man in his 70s who lived at Life Care Center, a long-term care facility in Kirkland where at least six people were infected with the virus. On Saturday, state officials announced that a resident and employee at the nursing home had both tested positive for the coronavirus, and that another 27 residents and 25 employees at the facility were showing COVID-19 symptoms.

California: Four more cases A Sonoma County resident who recently took a cruise from San Francisco to Mexico was among four new presumed cases of the coronavirus, according officials on Monday. A public-health emergency has now been declared in the county. Two new cases were also reported in Santa Clara County, as well as one new case in San Mateo County.

Florida: Public health emergency declared after two cases found On Sunday night, Florida governor Ron DeSantis directed the state’s surgeon general to declare a public-health emergency after two people in the Tampa Bay area tested positive for the coronavirus — the first cases reported in the state. Health officials don’t yet know how one of the people, a man in his 60s, contracted the disease.

The governor said that health officials do not believe she was contagious while she was traveling back to the U.S., but authorities are still contacting the other passengers on her plane as well as the car service driver the couple hired to drive them home from the airport. Rhode Island: Another case linked to Italy A man in his 40s who had recently traveled to Italy has tested positive for the COVID-19, state health officials announced on Sunday. His illness is a “presumptive positive” case, which means a local public-health laboratory has confirmed he has the virus, but the CDC hasn’t yet conducted a second test.

Illinois: Not clear how an elderly couple caught the virus A man in his 70s from Cook County, near Chicago, tested positive for the coronavirus, local officials announced on Saturday. They don’t yet know how the man was infected. His wife, also in her 70s, has also tested positive, officials said Monday.

California’s earlier confirmed cases On Friday afternoon in the heart of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara County public health director Dr. Sara Cody announced that a woman with chronic health conditions who had been hospitalized for a respiratory illness had also tested positive, despite having no known exposure to any coronavirus outbreaks. The 65-year-old woman was tested after her infectious-disease physician suspected she might have the coronavirus and called county officials on Wednesday.

The county is roughly 90 miles from Solano County, where another woman with no known links to a coronavirus outbreak tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this week. There have been two other confirmed COVID-19 cases in Santa Clara County, but both were in people who had traveled to China. Another coronavirus case was confirmed in Solano County on Friday, in someone who had been aboard the quarantined Princess Diamond cruise ship in Japan.
