This willingness to provoke comes through most clearly in a number of pieces that speak to the female form through less obvious means. There are the German artist Iris Häussler’s uncanny wax casts of her niece’s floral nightdresses – Rocha poetically describes them as “so fragile, like they’re holding memories” – or Cross’s stilettos, covered in cowhide and featuring teats attached as macabre toe caps.
