LORAIN, Ohio — A teen woman was wounded early Wednesday morning when shots were fired during a large gathering at an event center in a southern part of the city.
Deputies with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office were called to the event center on the 1400 block of East Avenue just after 1:30 a.m., police say. When deputies arrived, they saw about 50 people, mainly between the ages of 14 and 20 years old, running from the building. A dispatcher told deputies there were reports that someone had been shot in the bathroom in the building. Deputies also heard a gunshot near the intersection of Grafton and Fuller roads.
When deputies went inside, they found an 18-year-old woman bleed from the head. The woman’s wound was not life-threatening and she was able to talk with deputies until she was taken by ambulance to a hospital. No update on her condition was released Wednesday. Shell casings were found at the scene and investigators were able to talk with several witnesses at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
