Is Thrawn Heir to the Empire...or something else?

Having been exiled for years in a completely different galaxy, it's been said that the missing Imperial leader's return will herald the resurgence of the Imperial Remnant's military.
Thrawn Has Never Been Loyal To The Empire First and foremost, it's important to clearly define what Thrawn's unique relationship with the Empire and Palpatine actually was. Originally in the established canon, Thrawn was an officer within the Chiss Ascendancy, his own people. Located in the Unknown Regions of space, the Chiss were largely anonymous from the rest of the Star Wars galaxy, at least until Thrawn was sent on a critical mission that brought him in contact with the Empire.
Despite being seen as one of Palpatine's best instruments right alongside Darth Vader and his many promotions within the Imperial Navy with his final rank as Grand Admiral, Thrawn's loyalty to the Emperor was in question by Palpatine himself just before the Liberation of Lothal .
However, it's also been teased that the bodies may in fact belong to the Nightsisters themselves. After all, Thrawn mentions the crates are part of a deal struck with the Great Mothers seeking to leave Peridea as well. To that end, it's possible Thrawn promised the Nightsisters passage aboard his starship and an escape from Peridea in exchange for their help as well as helping them take their fallen sisters to the known galaxy.
