Shang-Chi was a breakout star in the MCU's Phase 4 movie of the same name, but star Simu Liu has a disappointing update about the anticipated sequel.
Simu Liu finally gives an update on Shang-Chi 2, which is still in development, as he opens up on when he will actually be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the new heroes that joined the MCU after the Infinity Saga was Shang-Chi, who had his own film back in Phase 4. While the COVID-19 pandemic certainly affected its overall box office results, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was still a success for Marvel Studios, setting him up for more adventures in the franchise.

At last, the leading star himself, Liu, took to Threads to clarify what is going on as a fan asked about the status of Shang-Chi 2's development.
Liu was "told it would follow Avengers," but that Marvel Studios "keeps pushing back" the project due to circumstances out of his control. Despite that, Liu stressed that he has"hope to have more concrete news to share soon," and to this point, no one from Marvel Studios has commented on his statement.Everything We Know About Shang-Chi 2 So Far While Shang-Chi 2 may not have a release date at this point, there are still a few confirmed details about the MCU sequel.
In April 2023, Liu spoke about wanting to center on new sides of his character when sharing a brief update on Shang-Chi 2. With Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings having set the foundation for the titular hero, it's Liu's hope that Shang-Chi 2 would flesh out aspects both around his character but also the people in his life, most likely meaning Katy, Xu Xialing, and Ying Nan.
Shang-Chi 2, at this point, is also probably being delayed due to Cretton being attached to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike is definitely playing a role in all of this. But given how packed Phases 5 and 6 are already, it would probably be better for Shang-Chi 2 to be saved for Phase 7. Hopefully, Marvel Studios will give some more direct updates on Shang-Chi 2 before the year is over.
