Swabbing of the throat while collecting a sample for a COVID\u002D19 rapid antigen test is now a practice endorsed by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA).

That endorsement was announced by way of a news release, posted to the SHA website on Monday.

“Evidence shows that although both nasal and throat/nares methods are acceptable, throat/nares collection does provide better results for detection of COVID-19 and the Omicron variant,” the release states.Do not eat, drink, vape, smoke, brush teeth or chew gum 30 minutes prior to testingObtain Throat Swab: Swab the back of the throat . Swab the tonsillar area in the back of the throat for five seconds on each side.
