The Giants are willing to shell out big time for this season's home run king.
Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees hits his 62nd home run of the season, breaking the American League home run record against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022.The belle of this year’s MLB free agency ball is American League home run king Aaron Judge, and theJudge's Yankees were eliminated over the weekend; the towering outfielder officially becomes a free agent after the World Series.
. Longtime Yankees writer Randy Miller said the source had recently met with Giants ownership, and therefore had “knowledge of the Giants’ thinking.” Miller quoted the source making a series of eye-popping predictions that would excite any Giants fan:-“The Giants are not going to stop with Judge. They have so much money freed up.”
Judge, obviously, would be the most talented player to play for the team since Barry Bonds himself, and he's a local to boot. He grew up cheering for the Giants while living in Linden, California, where his parents still live. He would make the middling last season a distant memory, a purgatory worth suffering through.
In a way, it would almost make the mediocre follow-up season to a miraculous 107-win one in 2020 worth it. The Giants won’t be alone in their pursuit of the 30-year-old superstar, who put up a 1.111 OPS, hit 62 homers and drove in 131 runs during the 2022 season.to go as far as to move five-time Golden Glove winner Mookie Betts to second base to make things work, according to MLB.com.
