Portions of the South should be alert for possible watches and warnings issued later today for a threat of severe weather, including possible tornadoes. Forecast:
Damaging winds and a tornado threat will accompany stronger storms.Severe thunderstorms packing threats of damaging winds and tornadoes are expected in portions of the South on Thursday.
Prepare for the possibility of damaging wind gusts and some tornadoes in these areas, especially in the darker red-shaded areas on the map below. That includes Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee, Jackson and Tupelo, Mississippi, and Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama. High wind warnings have been hoisted by the National Weather Service from Long Island to southern and eastern New England for wind gusts up to 60 mph. This area has the greatest likelihood of some power outages and tree damage.
