'Never did we think that possibly we’d start the year without him and it certainly looks that way,' coach D.J. Smith told reporters.
The are preparing to start the regular season without in their lineup. Coach D.J. Smith told reporters Saturday that Norris, 24, likely won’t be available when the Senators take the ice for their regular-season opener Wednesday in Carolina. “Right now, the training staff and doctors are telling me he’s not going to play. It’s unfortunate,” Smith said. “I know the kid wants to play hockey. As a coaching staff, we’ve had to change some things around.
Smith said Saturday that nobody on the staff anticipated things playing out in this fashion. “We all thought Josh would go through a little bit of practice, take a few bumps and get in an exhibition game and away we’d go. And that just didn’t happen,” Smith said. Last season, Norris suffered a shoulder injury in October and opted for a rehab procedure in the hopes of returning.
