The Senate rejected an attempt to require President Trump to seek congressional approval for military action in Iran
Amid escalating tensions with Tehran, the Senate on Friday rejected an attempt to require President Donald Trump to seek congressional approval for military action in Iran.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer , called on the House to attach a similar amendment to its version of the defense bill so that the measure might be included in a final version. Four Republican Senators joined 46 Democrats in supporting the curbing Trump’s authority in Iran. Sen. Chris Coons did not vote.
Democrats, and a handful of Republicans, argue that Congress needs to assert itself as tensions between the U.S. and Iran ratchet up. Democrats called on Congress to intervene in order to avoid another unending war in the Middle East.
