South Carolina senator and 2024 presidential hopeful Tim Scott made an appearance on ABC's 'The View' Monday to defend himself after co-hosts on the show criticized him over his takes on racial issues in America.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg also claimed at the time that Scott had "Clarence Thomas syndrome" and "doesn't get" the issue of "systemic racism" as a result. Another "The View" co-host, Joy Behar, agreed. I’m on the show because of the comments made frankly on this show that the only way for a young African American kid to be successful in this country is to be the exception and not the rule," Scott said. "That’s a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today, that the only way to succeed is by being the exception."
Hostin told Scott that all of his examples were "exceptions" and to bolster the argument that systemic racism exists in America. that there now is "40% homelessness for African Americans" in the country where they make up just "13% of the population." At one instance in the show, after the co-hosts asked Scott to speak with his part more about Republicans' issues with race, to which Scott pressed back that "it's not Republicans or Democrats... Both sides of the aisle can do a better job on the issue of race."
