Two white fell ponies named Bybeck Katie and Bybeck Nightingale make a cameo with the Queen.
In it, the monarch stands between two of her white fell ponies – named Bybeck Katie and Bybeck Nightingale – on the grounds of Windsor Castle. She wears a muted green coat in a shade that is similar to Prince Philip's official livery colour.
The photo was taken by Henry Dallal, a noted equestrian photographer, on behalf of the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The queen is a patron – and avid spectator – of the annual sporting event, which is held in May or June each year. It's an apropos portrait for the nonagenarian monarch, whose lifelong love of horses has been well-documented. At age four, her father gave her and her sister, Margaret, a Shetland pony named Peggy.
