The council’s new policy would have seen students of Prince William School paying for the school bus
North Northamptonshire Council has confirmed that children under 16 in Thrapston and Islip will continue to benefit from free bus travel to Oundle’s Prince William School. It comes after a review of it’s new “Home to School” policy which initially announced that the free travel was under risk.
The review by council officers has now concluded that as per the Department for Education’s definition, a school may be considered “suitable” and eligible for statutory free transport if a school which is nearer is full. Manor School in Raunds is closer to Thrapston but the council recognised it is regularly near capacity and therefore not suitable for supporting the significant demand for places.
Cllr Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council, added: “I am pleased for the families in the Thrapston and Islip areas. The new policy means that younger generations can continue to follow in their family's footsteps.”
