A second Chilton County schools employee has received a repayment demand letter from her district after it overpaid her nearly $33,000 over the past four years, according to the Alabama Education Association.the district has given the employee, who became a teacher at the start of the 2018-19 school year after spending the previous 12 years as a school nurse, four years to repay $32,958 in overpayments.
“I’ve occasionally seen some problems with overpayment for support professionals,” she said, “but these are the first two of this type of overpayment that I’ve worked with.”asking her to repay more than $23,000 in overpayments made since the start of the 2016-17 school year when she became manager. She had previously been the assistant manager and was incorrectly given credit for her years of experience in that position.
Griffin gave Payne three options, she said: a nearly $326 deduction from Payne’s paychecks for the next six years; paying $3,911 a year for the next six years; or a lump sum for the full amount of the overpayment.
