On the field, the teams played a classic game that went down to the wire. The Razorbacks were big underdogs but gave the Tigers all they could handle, taking a 13-10 lead into halftime. It was a particularly tough first half for Daniels, who was inaccurate and threw an early interception. Then a switch flipped, and he delivered one of the best performances of his career.
“He was not in great rhythm early,” Kelly said. “He saw that. He sensed that. The experience that he’s had, to allow himself to find that rhythm that he needed, is the difference. He made the self-corrections based on the experience that he’s had before.” Daniels led LSU to points on every possession of the second half, including three drives in a row that ended in passing touchdowns. The non-touchdown drive: nine plays, 73 yards, ending in the winning field goal. Daniels finished with 320 passing yards and four touchdowns, and LSU got the win for Brooks.
“So many people want to get , and I’m sure so many here too,” Kelly said of Brooks. “But he needs rest. He needs to recover, and when you have a lot of people going there it just takes a lot of his energy away from him. … He’s starting to make the kind of recovery that his doctors want and we’re just obviously every single day getting to the point where he’s making that recovery necessary for him to be up and around. So we’re making progress.
