A major contract vote will take place at Seattle Children’s Hospital on Thursday. If the contract is approved, nurses with the Washington State Nurses Association would have their wages raised by $10 an hour within the next 12 months.

According to the union, it was a civil, but long negotiation process. The last session before an agreement was made with the hospital lasted 19 hours.

Pamela Chandran is an attorney with WSNA. She says this new contract will not only retain nurses, but recruit as well. Cortez says she has always loved Seattle Children’s Hospital, hence why she’s been there for over three decades. But she believes local costs in Seattle is one of the factors driving nurses away.
