Hayim Katsman, who received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington’s Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies in 2021, was living in Holit, a kibbutz near the Gaza Strip border, as he worked on research,that she initially thought he had been abducted but later found out he had been killed by the invading terrorists early Saturday.
Katsman — who lived in the city of Petah Tikva before moving to the kibbutz — was remembered Monday by his friends and professors at the University of Washington as an empathetic person. Charlie-Moshé Elias, who met Katsman while in the UW’s Jewish Studies program, said the scholar had advocated for peace in the region and critiqued the Israeli government.
