It is understood the man was swept away in the river after it burst its banks on Sunday following heavy rainfall in the area.
Searches are resuming this morning for a 77-year-old man who is believed to have been swept away in the River Tay during heavy flooding. Emergency services were called to the river, near Strathtay in Perthshire, at around 5.30pm on Sunday after concern was raised for a man in the water.
Relentless rainfall hit Scotland on Saturday and continued through the night, causing severe travel disruptions on roads and railways. A "risk to life" warning due to severe flooding was issued to those in the north of the country. Photographs taken yesterday show the extent of flooding in the area, with the water level in the River Tay reaching the top of bridges in the Perth area.
It comes after Scots grandmother Hazel Nairn was swept away in the River Don last year during severe flooding in the Aberdeenshire area. The 71-year-old was pulled into the river in Monymusk as she walked her dog on November 18, 2022.
