Sean Penn has loaned Ukraine one of his Oscar statuettes as a good luck charm in its ongoing war with Russia. “When you win, bring it back to Malibu,” the actor told Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“It’s a symbolic, silly thing, but if I know this is here with you, then I’ll feel better and strong enough for the fight,” he told Zelenskyy during their meeting. “When you win, bring it back to Malibu. Because I’ll feel much better knowing there’s a piece of me here.”
That’s not the only Penn-related artifact that will reside in Ukraine. After honoring the actor with the Order of Merit of the III degree for outstanding service, Zelenskyy showed Penn a commemorative plaque dedicated to him. “There are three places in the world that all the pride of my life will be—the place where my daughter was born, the place where my son was born, and this,” the 62-year-old said in response.
As noted in Zelenskyy’s Instagram caption, this is Penn’s third visit to Ukraine during the war. Ahead of the invasion, the actor traveled there
