Reaction from the Everton manager after the clash with Liverpool on Saturday

Sean Dyche was planning to give his players a “jolt” after a positive first half display at Anfield - only for his plans to be ruined by Ashley Young’s red card.

After the game, Dyche said he was pleased with the performance of his Everton side in a Merseyside derby defined by those controversial decisions. He said: “The sending off happens, the first one is touch and go and the second is a yellow. In the second half we changed the shape and I thought that worked well, we wanted to take the sting and heat out of the game in front of the Kop End. It worked well because they had long distance efforts and then the penalty changes it. It is difficult after that, having to change the mental format to play more aggressively on the attacking side of the game.
