The student called police just before 2 a.m. Sunday and reported the alleged assault on 70th Street near Saranac Street
Police said the victim got into the car somewhere on a residential street south of the campus. The driver traveled around the College Area and sexually assaulted her in the car before he dropped her off on 70th Street somewhere between Alvarado Road and Mohawk Street — in the area where she reported the incident.Sex crimes detectives are working to locate witnesses and gather evidence, including video, police said.The victim’s age was not released.
Anyone with information was asked to call police at 531-2210 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 580-8477. The university issued an alert about the investigation and shared the following safety tips for rideshare app users:While waiting for your ride, stay alert by avoiding distractions,Ride in the backseat whenever possible, and
Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable, notify law enforcement or look for an option to activate the app’s emergency feature.
