At SDCC, Screen Rant had the honor of sitting down with StarTrekResurgence writers Dan Martin & Andrew Grant to discuss the upcoming Star Trek game's characters, story, and release date:
The creators of Star Trek: Resurgence brought game footage and big announcements to San Diego Comic Con 2022.
Andrew Grant: What's unique to our style of storytelling is that because the player has a controller in their hand, they can define their character. So in the scene that you'll see today, you're playing as Jara Rydek, the First Officer aboard the ship, and she's been brought aboard to support the captain. And yet as the player, you can either choose to lean into that and support him in every turn or defy him at every turn. And you're defining your experience in this game.
Dan Martin: Choices as the First Officer will then have an impact on what you're doing, as the engineer say, out on the hull of the ship and in an emergency. And also, you're gonna be making choices as that engineer that change the state of the world [and] that impact what the First Officer is going to be contending with in these high-stakes situations.
Andrew Grant: To the point of immersion, we try and take the story off-rails as much as we can, and let you just explore the environment. To be on the bridge of a starship and to be in the lower decks or in engineering and just discover things for yourself as a fan. It's super cool. The ship itself has that history. And it's been modified, so it has a different configuration than your standard off-the-assembly-line Centaur class. One of the things that's great about Star Trek is there is this long history; this long canon, and just having those ties to other things makes it feel like it's part of the world. It's not necessary to enjoy the game, but I think people get a certain appreciation out of it that we've put the work in to connect it all together.
I saw in the trailer that was released a while back that Ambassador Spock is a character in the game. How big a role does he play in the story?
