Locals hear screaming as 'man with machete is seen running up street' and one is taken to hospital with knife injury
Residents in Tameside have reported hearing screaming around the time a 'man with a machete' was spotted running up a street.
Locals have said they heard shouting and screaming coming from the street shortly before officers arrived on the scene. Whilst a punter at a nearby pub is said to have reported seeing a man with blood on him and carrying a machete running past the premises on Astley Street. "Within a few minutes the police were here and they taped it all off. They wouldn't tell us any more about what had happened though. The pub was allowed to stay open and people could still come and go.
"We didn't think too much of it, to be honest, we thought it must just be a typical Saturday night kick-off but then we heard all the sirens and could see all the police and we knew something serious must have happened." "They took the tape down after a couple of hours but they were here for a good while, I could still see one police car when I woke in the night at about 3am"A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 9:15pm last night GMP were called to reports of a disturbance at Astley Street, Tameside.
