A review led by Matthew Ryder QC, commissioned by the Ada Lovelace Institute, has called for a halting of biometric surveillance, including the use of live facial recognition technology, until adequate safeguards and protections are in place. Suggestions published in the review recommend that legislation is introduced which can effectively govern the use of the technology, with oversight from an independent regulatory body.
