Heather Cuthbertson thanked her boss and doctors at the hospital where she works after her eyesight was saved.
A nurse wrote a goodbye message to her son before undergoing what turned out to be life-saving surgery after contracting sepsis.
Doctors had told her at the time her condition may be caused by a brain tumour. Just over a year ago, Heather started to suffer with extreme headaches and could see the vision in her right eye starting to get worse. While doctors did not have time to carry out the usual tests before the procedure, a kidney infection Heather was unknowingly carrying led to sepsis spreading throughout her body - which nearly claimed her life.
"Last year I started suffering from headaches for about 10 weeks before going to get an eye test then being referred to the Eye Pavilion. I could feel myself going blind in the other eye and I was very scared and anxious. Heather says that the surgery was carried out on a Sunday as doctors couldn't afford to delay it any longer and before going under the knife, she started writing notes on her phone to her three-year-old son Cruz in case she never made it.
