Murray Gray's mum is pushing for cannabis oil to be free on the NHS, as the family currently pay £1,000 a month for the treatment, which she says has seen her son seizure-free since 2019.

The mum of a Scottish schoolboy who was having "hundreds" of seizures a day is set to petition the Scottish Government to change the law around medicinal cannabis oil, after not having a single seizure since he started using it.

Karen told Edinburgh Live: "Five years ago the law was changed, and like lots of parents with kids who suffer with epilepsy I had pushed for this law. So children can get cannabis oil legally prescribed, but unfortunately it isn't helping everyone. On November 8, Karen and others have invited various others to gather at Parliament to try and "get some movement", by walking to Downing Street with plaques and to hand in a petition she hopes MPs will sign.

With the huge improvement to his health - seizures can cause a range of health problems and can even be fatal - Karen said that the monthly £1,000 is a huge financial strain for the family. "Murray started off having really, really bad seizures," she said. "We're currently weaning him off this medication. It's really nerve wracking, but we are so lucky and we're hoping that he is one of the ones whose managed to grow out of it."
