Carrie Henderson has pledged to fight as hard as she can for her children and is bravely raising awareness through a series of raw TikTok videos she hopes will help save lives.
A mum-of-five facing a terminal cancer diagnosis is urging women to trust their instincts and push for answers if something feels wrong.
Speaking to the Lennox Herald this week, Carrie told how the diagnosis has turned her family’s world upside down. “My partner, Kevin, has just had to give up work as a chef at Duck Bay to become my full-time carer which is a big change. We’ve never been out of work. Carrie said she felt something was seriously wrong and said it was initially put it down to postnatal depression and weight gain.
“I was barely able to get out of bed, I was in agony. I know my own body, and at that point I knew that there was definitely something wrong.”She continued: “Almost exactly a year ago, at the end of September 2022, Dr Shields told me that there were changes to my cervix.“On October 19, 2022, I got a phone call to see my consultant. He sat me down and told me that I had stage three C1 cervical cancer.
“That pain continued until I got a new pain in my left side. Previously all the pain had been on my right side. birth. It felt like everything which could have gone wrong went wrong and I never felt right from that point. “A lot can get put down to having a baby. There has got to be more that could be done to check for cervical cancer at that stage.
