Robbie Meiklem, who played for Girvan FC's Under-20s development team, passed away at Ayr Hospital on Saturday, September 23.

A heartbroken Scots family have issued a mental health plea following the sudden death of a talented young Ayrshire footballer.

"Robbie was a lovely caring young man who was loved by his mum and dad, sisters, gran and papa and aunties and uncles. Robbie never asked for anything but was given everything. He continued: "After three days on life support with no hope it was decided to follow Robbie's wishes to donate his organs to help others. During a late night operation which has never been done before at Ayr hospital, Robbie's healthy organs were donated to six recipients throughout the UK.

"There were no signs or clues to alarm us with what Robbie was going to do. Only Robbie will ever know why he did what he did. I'm not angry anymore just heartbroken and confused as are all the family.Scottish football clubs expressed their grief as they paid tribute to the young star and announced a minute silence in his memory.

Auchinleck Talbot, who Robbie had formally played for, issued a call for those struggling to 'never be afraid to reach out'.
