Alistair Birse, 30, was three times over the drug driving limit when he veered across the carriageway and smashed into the car being driven by Kirsty Stewart.
A cocaine-fuelled engineer who caused another motorist life-threatening injuries by shunting her car down an embankment has been jailed for 13 months.
Solicitor Brian Bell, defending, said: "Very fortunately, she appears to have had a full recovery. It's a road between Forfar and Arbroath featuring a series of tight bends. The accused narrowly crossed the lane. My submission today is the nature of the actual driving itself is at the lower end of dangerous - arguably careless.
Sheriff Paul Brown said: "This is a serious offence" and told Birse jail was the only possible outcome. The father-of-one admitted to police he was at fault and failed a drug swipe at the scene. He was later found to have three times the permitted level of cocaine in his system.
