The current plan is for electric scooters to return to Dallas by the middle of February, but the actual date is still being finalized, according to the city.
, but Dallas officials say e-scooter companies are still setting up. The city is also finalizing the permit process and hiring an outside company to collect data on the vendors once they’re active to track where scooters are being used and how they’re complying with city rules.
The City Council approved the new regulations during the summer, paving the way for scooters to make a comeback. City officials plan to evaluate the scooter program every three months. With every positive review, companies could be allowed to add 250 more scooters until they reach a maximum of 1,250 scooters apiece.
No more than 25% will be in central Dallas, including downtown, Uptown and Deep Ellum. Under the city’s rules, the operators will be responsible for monitoring the distribution of scooters to make sure they are following the rules.
