The latest Tom Hanks film, 'A Man Called Otto,' is popular among Northeast Ohio audiences, according to figures released by Sony Pictures Entertainment. And it turns out that Cleveland connections abound in the film.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Northeast Ohio audiences are loving “A Man Called Otto.” Sony Pictures Entertainment reported that the latest Tom Hanks film, released earlier this month, is over-performing in the Midwest with older moviegoers.
The cast also includes another well-known name in Cuyahoga County. Former Shaker Heights state legislator and Cuyahoga County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones, also has a major role in the movie, playing stroke victim Reuben. While the movie was primarily shot in Pittsburgh, two pivotal scenes were shot in Northeast Ohio and Toledo.
“Having a Tom Hanks movie filmed in our cars at our railroad and in the national park has been huge for us,” Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad President/CEO Joe Mazur said. Mazur said five Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad cars were used during the one-day shoot, with Truman’s scene involving him leaving the station and riding the No. 15 car southbound toward Akron.
New Tom Hanks film “A Man Called Otto” included the Academy Award-winning actor’s son Truman filming scenes at the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad’s Brecksville Station on Riverview Road. “‘Otto’ is an example of Ohio’s lost opportunity,” said Garvey, who has been in the position for just over a year. “This is a project that intended to film in Ohio. It scouted filming locations in Ohio in the fall of 2020.
