Seven thousand fans at Viejas Arena were too nervous to stay in their seats as the final seconds wound down in SDSU’s Final Four game against Florida Atlantic.
The lights dimmed just before tipoff as if we were about to watch a play, fitting for what was to unfold. Both Rockies manager Bud Black and Padres manager Bob Melvin came out wearing SDSU jerseys with Kawhi Leonard’s No. 15. When Butler’s shot went through he hugged the person next to him and got a fist bump from Rockies pitcher Pierce Johnson.The crowd relived it a little later, with the Aztecs fight song played over the PA in the bottom of the second inning as the final shot was replayed on the videoboard.Among the events scheduled months in advance for April 1 was a wedding at The Lodge in Torrey Pines.
