Yes, you read that correctly. SAWS will fork over up to $400 in coupons if you substitute a garden bed for what the city-owned utility calls"boring turf." You can get up to $1,000 in coupons to put in a wooden deck or stone patio.There's no catch. This is on the up-and up. But there are conditions and restrictions.SAWS won't pay you to put more plants in an established flower bed. You have to remove at least 200 square feet of lawn for every $100 coupon you receive.

And you have to cap all sprinkler heads and removed drip irrigation lines from the newly planted area. SAWS won't pay for a new garden bed with permanent irrigation.
