You had no reason to think the switch had been stopped, as Ecotricity had sent you a prepayment key before it knew it was blocked.British Gas emailed you after your application to switch to Ecotricity, saying you would need to settle the outstanding balance before the change of supplier could proceed – but as you had also received a letter from British Gas saying it was “sorry to see you go”, by this point you thought there had been some mistake.
A spokesperson for Ecotricity said: “There was a mix-up with conveying the block to the transfer to the customer, despite them getting in touch with us. For that we are sorry.”Any British Gas vouchers you still have should still be redeemable and there shouldn’t be issues with the current key – which, although it says Ecotricity, also works for British Gas.
