The non\u002Dprofit is moving to the north end, after years of operating at a location just outside the city limits on Clarence Avenue South.

Effective Jan. 1, the SPCA will move its operations to 2250 Hanselman Ave. The Clarence Avenue building will remain as the city animal pound, but will be taken over by the Saskatoon Animal Control Agency, which wasDyck said the new building at Hanselman Avenue will be able to house more than 100 animals, allowing the SPCA to continue offering the community’s largest animal adoption service.

Dyck said the SPCA will also be able to focus more on developing new initiatives focusing on “the human-animal bond” now that running the pound is off its plate. He said these include a re-homing program, noting financial pressure and health issues can force even the best pet owners to give up their animals.

Dyck said the SPCA also sees advantages in moving to a location that is properly within the city limits, and located in the north end with easier access to the rapidly growing communities of Warman and Martensville. He said the SPCA struggled in the past to support these communities in it location just outside the city’s southern boundary.
