Merriman last summer said the Saskatchewan government would pay a Calgary clinic to perform 20 knee and hip surgeries each month for people on the province’s surgical wait list. CUPE 5430 is also concerned about the outcome for patients who travel out of province. Travelling for surgery comes with extra costs, CUPE noted, saying that logistical hurdles may lead to complications with recovery.
