Santa Ana winds might cause power outages in San Diego County this week [Breaking]
Strong Santa Ana winds will arrive in San Diego County Tuesday night and peak on Wednesday, potentially causing power outages and downed trees over a wide area, says the National Weather Service.
The winds could gust 65 mph to 70 mph in certain exposed areas of East County, including along eastern Interstate 8 near Alpine and Pine Valley. The conditions will pose a hazard to high profile vehicles. Julian could get winds approaching 50 mph and Palomar Mountain, farther north, will get gusts to 45 mph.Forecasters say the winds will reach all the way to the coast, possibly snapping 25 mph to 35 mph from San Ysidro to Oceanside. The conditions could buffet vehicles along Interstate 5 in Camp Pendleton.
At the same time, the relative humidity will fall to the 15 percent to 25 percent range in many areas. San Diego’s daytime high is expected to reach its seasonal average of 71 degrees for the first time this month on Wednesday, when the winds peak.issuing a fire watch for San Diego County. “Given the substantial amounts of rainfall received across the backcountry over the past week, concerns for fire weather remain very low,” SDGE said in an online statement.Conditions are generally drier in some areas of Los Angeles County, where a fire advisory is expected to be in place on Wednesday. Forecasters say the winds could blow far offshore, hitting Santa Catalina Island and causing rough seas.
