Four other people were hospitalized, police say
SAN MARTIN — A driver was killed and four people werr hurt in a Sunday afternoon two-vehicle collision in San Martin after the other driver didn’t stop at a stop sign, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol received a call at about 12:50 p.m. of a crash in the area of Center Avenue and East Middle Avenue, according to a CHP news release. A man driving a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling south on Center Avenue with two passengers in the car and approached a stop sign at the intersection with East Middle Avenue.
The driver didn’t stop at the sign, colliding with a Ford F150 being driven by Lorenzo Castillo, a 69-year-old San Martin man, authorities said. Castillo and two other passengers were ejected from the truck. Castillo died from his injuries. Four people, including passengers in both cars and the driver of the Chevrolet, had minor to major injuries and were taken to hospitals.
Authorities said they suspect drugs or alcohol may have been factors in the crash. Anyone with more information has been asked to contact CHP Officer Polkownikow at 408-848-2324.
