The motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
Authorities are searching for the culprit in a shooting near a San Jose homeless encampment that left a man dead and a woman injured.
Officers were called just before 9:50 p.m. on Monday to the area of Willow and Lelong streets, near Highway 87 and Tamien Park, for reports of the shooting. They found the woman with at least one gunshot wound at the scene, according to the San Jose Police Department. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of what were determined to be non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Authorities later found the second victim injured at a homeless encampment along Guadalupe Creek and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the SJPD. His name was not released. San Jose police reported the motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting were under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to contact the SJPD Homicide Unit at 408 277-5283.
