The suspect is believed to have multiple firearms and fired rounds into the air; he allegedly threatened a woman with a gun before she safely escaped.
SAN JOSE — Authorities were in a standoff Friday afternoon with an armed man who fired multiple shots in the air and had barricaded himself in a home following a domestic disturbance call earlier in the day, according to San Jose police.
Police were first called at 10:11 a.m. to a home in the 100 block of Rancho Drive for domestic-violence report and at some point, a man involved in the disturbance fired several shots, but did not hit anyone. Later on in the day, after the San Jose police MERGE Unit — the city’s version of a SWAT team — was summoned, a woman who the man is romantically involved with was able to safely exit the home. But police said that was not before the man reportedly pointed a gun at her.
Police said they believe the man was armed with multiple guns, and was alone inside the home. A tactical negotiator was working to contact the man. “We are working towards and hoping for a peaceful resolution to this incident,” police said in a tweet Friday afternoon.3/ The suspect is believed to be alone in the residence.— San José Police Media Relations
