A bomb squad accompanied the police response to a house near Gunderson High School on Wednesday afternoon.
SAN JOSE — A large police contingent including the city’s bomb squad descended on a South San Jose home on Wednesday afternoon as part of an investigation into someone possessing explosives and illegal drugs, authorities said.
The home is located on Potomac Court, about a block north of the Gunderson High School campus across Chynoweth Avenue. The police presence, which was joined by a hazmat team, arrived in the area around the time school was letting out. San Jose police said bomb techs were part of a warrant search at the site as a precaution, but have not found any cause to issue evacuation or shelter-in-place orders for the surrounding area.
Sgt. Christian Camarillo said if actively explosive materials are discovered, evacuations could be ordered for neighboring homes and businesses. One person has been arrested in the investigation, Camarillo said, but he declined to release additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.
